Three of the best eco-conscious movies (and one surprise)
If a picture is worth a thousand words, what’s a good movie worth? Passionate environmentalists have been making movies to get their message across for decades. From features to documentaries to animated films, there is a long selection from which to choose.
Here are three that have been widely recommended:
Mia and the Migoo (Animated, Winner of Best Animated Feature, European Film Awards)
From the official website (a wonderful, kid-friendly site) — “a beautiful and thrilling family adventure… The film is a man-against-nature fable, pitting wild-haired young heroine Mia against the forces of destruction, with the future of life on Earth in the balance.”
Waste Land (Documentary, Winner of Audience Award World Cinema Documentary, Sundance Film Festival, Academy Award Nominee)
“Filmed over nearly three years, WASTE LAND follows renowned artist Vik Muniz as he journeys from his home base in Brooklyn to his native Brazil and the world's largest garbage dump, Jardim Gramach …[the film offers] stirring evidence of the transformative power of art and the alchemy of the human spirit.”
AsMatt Damon “And His Global War For Water: The Intimate Tale Of An Actor Done Good” from the cover of “Fast Company,” Tapped asks “is access to clean drinking water a basic human right, or a commodity that should be bought and sold like any other article of commerce?” A behind-the-scenes look into the unregulated and unseen industry that aims to privatize and sell this fundamental resource.
And if you like your environmentally-friendly message wrapped up in action and explosions, don’t miss On Deadly Ground, the Steven Seagal cult classic that closes with his impassioned plea, “how many oil spills can we endure? Millions and millions of gallons of oil are now destroying the oceans and the many forms of life they support.”
